Lagos Comic Con was born in 2012 from a simple vision: to create a place where fans of comics, animation, gaming, cosplay, science fiction, and geek culture could connect, belong, and celebrate their passions without judgment. At a time when many enthusiasts felt isolated or misunderstood, founder and convener Ayodele Elegba recognized the need for a community that embraced creativity and fandom.
The first Lagos Comic Con welcomed approximately 300 attendees, bringing together creators, gamers, artists, animators, and fans who discovered they were part of something much larger. What began as a small gathering quickly evolved into a movement, fostering friendships, collaborations, and a thriving creative community.
Today, Lagos Comic Con attracts over 7,000 attendees annually, making it one of Africa’s largest celebrations of comics, animation, gaming, film, cosplay, technology, and pop culture. From its humble beginnings, it has grown into a powerful platform that champions creativity, storytelling, and the growth of Africa’s creative industries.
